Lymm Hockey Club set their sights on booking a plate final date


LYMM Hockey Club men’s team will be bidding to reach the Cheshire Plate Cup Final on Sunday.

The North West Division Five South outfit face Division One leaders Neston South Wirral in the semi final at Lymm High School at 2pm.

LYMM women’s first team were too strong for Winnington Park with two players scoring hat-tricks.

They went 1-0 up early on after Hollie Acklam drove into the D and struck from long range.

Smart work from Lynne Pyman on the right set up Susie Chiverton to make it two but Lymm did not have it all their own way.

Goalkeeper Amy Heywood rushed off her line to clear a one-on-one attack before Jayne Buck and Alex Mitchell were able to add a goal each and leave Lymm in a strong position at half time.

Lymm stepped up a gear after the break, with Chiverton and Buck going on to complete hat-tricks.

Lynne Pyman and Helen Weston finished the scoring.

Lymm dominated the second half with player-of-the-match George Allman slotting home with 10 minutes remaining.

* WARRINGTON Men’s First team scored a 4-1 victory over Preston Fourth team.

Rob Powell coolly scored the first with a flicked finish over an oncoming keeper.

Warrington scored again with a goal from Mike Vickers making it 2-0 at half time.

Ten minutes into the second half Richard Taylor scored a third.

Although Preston scored the last goal of the game went to Warrington after a bullet-like shot from Brendan Morris.

* WARRINGTON Women’s first team had a 9-1 victory over Crewe.

Player-of-the-match Ruth Farrell scored three goals and set up several more.

Lucie Stevenson got a first half hat-trick and captain Sarah Goulding slotted home a penalty flick. Emma Barlow and Louise Sullivan completed the scoring.

Warrington’s second team lost 5-0 at Alderley Edge fourths, despite an outstanding performance from goal-keeper Kirsty Anderson.
