Inspectors have praise for Lysander High School, Padgate

IMPROVEMENTS made at Lysander Community High School have given the establishment good opportunity for further success.

The Ofsted monitoring visit in December found the school, on Insall Road, Padgate, to be making satisfactory improvements and ‘good progress in demonstrating a better capacity for sustained improvement’.

Janet Palmer, an Ofsted inspector, said the school exceeded targets set by itself and Warrington Borough Council in 2009 after a record percentage of students attained five A* to C grades at GCSE.

Standards in maths fell slightly but the inspector said staff are fully aware of the problems and have a ‘good range of interventions’ in place.

Progress was also noted in work done to improve leadership and management of the sixth form, which was pinpointed for work following an inspection in 2008.

Alison Sherman, head teacher at Lysander, said: “We were very pleased with the judgements made by the inspectors as they reinforced the fact that the vast majority of indicators are looking good in terms of our school making significant improvements.

“The report also compliments us strongly on our ability to achieve even more due to the things we have put in place, giving us a judgment of ‘good’ for our capacity to make further improvement.”
